Since opening our doors over 12 years ago, Network Technologies of Kansas has become the most trusted provider of IT services in and around Topeka. And now the boring stuff…If you really want to know why I started Network Technologies of Kansas- by Jim Driggers II
Back in 1998, I was the IT manager for a mid-size company in Topeka and I loved my job and the company. At the beginning of the year, the company started experiencing financial problems and started downsizing. So at that time, I saw the writing on the wall and decided to take the big leap into self-employment in the computer repair business.
In the summer of 1999 I started Network Technologies of Kansas in my basement and doing computer work for friends and their businesses. This work grew faster than I ever expected and within two months I had to hire a friend as a second tech to help me keep up. Within four months I had picked up so much business, the two of us could not keep up with all the work so I hired another tech. We were all working out of my basement and within two months my wife said” Jim, you need to get an office somewhere other than our basement, your techs see me in my PJ’s as much as you do”. So I moved into a office on my wife’s request.
In 2002 my oldest daughter, Amanda joined me as our office manager/ bookkeeper and is still here and helping run both Network Technologies of Kansas and The Computer Store. And I will say, it is really nice getting to see your daughter every day (even though there are days she probably doesn’t feel the same).
The company continued to grow and more companies were calling which made us grow even more into the company we are today. In 2003 I decided to offer custom built computers to homeowners since they could not get good local support from the big box stores or the quality and reliable computers we were building for our business clients. This is when “The Computer Store” was born and we have been going strong and growing ever since. We have seen many other computer stores come and go but we are still here and are the oldest, locally owned computer store in Topeka.
And that is the rest of the story.
